When you are investing in a marqueeâwhether for a hire business or for frequent professional useâit is the small engineering details that make the biggest difference. One of the standout features of our Commercial Grade Marquees is the use of Gable Uprights.
But what exactly are they, and why should they be a âmust-haveâ on your checklist?
What are Gable Uprights?
On standard or budget marquees, the triangular âendâ of the tent (the gable) is often just one large sheet of PVC stretched across the width.
Our commercial marquees are designed differently. We include framework legsâGable Uprightsâthat split the end panels into uniform 2-meter sections. This matches the structural spacing of the side legs, and it changes everything regarding how you use your marquee.
1. Total Versatility: You Decide the Layout
Because the gable uprights split the ends into standard 2m sections, all of your PVC panels become interchangeable.
The window panels, plain walls, and zipped door walls are all the same size. This means you arenât restricted to having the entrance in just one pre-determined spot.
- The Hire Advantage: If you are a marquee hirer, this is a massive selling point. You can arrive at a site and ask the customer exactly where they want the doors based on their garden layout or the position of their house.
- Customization: Want a full âwindow wallâ at the end of the marquee to face a view? No problem. Need a zipped entrance on the gable end rather than the side? It takes seconds to swap them over.
2. Weather Resistance: Ending the âBillowâ Effect
Wind is the natural enemy of any marquee. Large, unsupported spans of PVC act like a giant sail. On cheaper marquees without gable uprights, a strong gust can cause the end panel to billow inward or outward with immense force.
This movement doesnât just make the marquee noisy; it puts massive strain on the fixings. Over time, this âtuggingâ can rip eyelets straight out of the PVC, leading to costly repairs and a shorter lifespan for your covers.
By using Gable Uprights, we âpinâ the PVC in place every 2 meters. This creates a much more rigid structure, significantly reducing billowing and protecting the integrity of your eyelets and bungees even in breezy conditions.
3. Ease of Maintenance
Handling one massive 6m or 9m end panel can be a struggle, especially in the wind. By breaking the ends down into 2m sections, the panels are lighter, easier to clean, and much simpler to replace if a single section ever gets damaged.
Summary
At DIY Marquees, we believe a marquee should be adaptable and durable. By including gable uprights in our commercial range, we ensure that your marquee is not only easier to set up and more flexible for your guests, but also built to withstand the elements for years to come.
